The Modi government has initiated operations against minorities, particularly Muslims, within India, while simultaneously engaging in espionage and terrorism internationally. Since coming to power in 2014, the Modi administration has pursued the Akhand Bharat project.
Under Modi’s extremist regime, there is substantial evidence of spreading terrorism and orchestrating targeted killings in other countries. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that a “nest” of Indian spies was uncovered and expelled from Australia in 2020 for attempting to steal defense secrets and monitor expatriate communities.
Public broadcaster ABC reported that Indian spies were caught there by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) in 2020 while they were trying to
“Steal secrets about sensitive defence projects and airport security, as well as classified information on Australia’s trade relationships”.
Citing unnamed “national security and government figures,” the report indicated that the Indian “nest of spies” was also accused of surveilling Indians living in Australia and developing close relationships with current and former politicians. In 2021, Australian intelligence officials mentioned a “nest of spies,” but the government declined to disclose the country involved.
Mike Burgess, the Chief of Australian intelligence, recently commented on a story by The Washington Post, revealing that India’s Modi government had operated this ‘nest of spies’ in Australia, which was ultimately thwarted by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).
This espionage effort was attributed to India’s foreign intelligence service, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Consequently, multiple Indian officials were expelled from Australia by the Morrison government. The spy network was accused of closely monitoring the Indian diaspora in Australia and attempting to forge relationships with current and former politicians.
Targets of the Indian spy network included a foreign embassy and a state police service. The spies managed to cultivate and recruit an Australian government security clearance holder who had access to sensitive defense technology details. Upon uncovering this covert operation, Australian authorities took several diplomatic actions, including the expulsion of the spies. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) increased its vigilance and monitoring of Indian intelligence activities, prompting a reevaluation of security protocols and procedures.
The Australian government engaged in diplomatic communication with India, though the specific details of these discussions remain confidential. It is likely that concerns were raised about the breach of trust and the necessity for cooperation in preventing future incidents.
These revelations come amid growing global concerns over the actions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which has been accused of violating international norms and the territorial sovereignty of foreign countries. The arrest of RAW operative Kulbhushan Yadav in Pakistan, the Indian Defense Minister’s confession of terrorism within Pakistan, the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, and the planned assassination of Patwant Singh in the United States are all clear indications of such activities.
An agent of the Indian intelligence agency “RAW” was also sentenced to death in Qatar for espionage. According to a report published in The Guardian, India has been implicated in terrorism and targeted assassinations in Pakistan and Canada. In 2023, the United States uncovered a covert Indian plan to assassinate American Sikh leader Gurptunat Singh Pannu, as reported by The Washington Post.
Several Indian officers have been arrested and reprimanded in Australia, Germany, and the UK after evidence emerged implicating the Indian agency RAW in the killings of Sikhs on foreign soil. German police have previously arrested Indian secret agents involved in planning the assassination of Sikhs.
For decades, the Indian organization RAW has attempted to undermine Pakistan, but its recent activities indicate an expansion of its terrorist operations globally. These incidents have raised alarms among Western allies, prompting concerns over the Indian government’s aggressive tactics. There is a growing call for an independent and impartial investigation into the alleged involvement of rogue elements within India’s intelligence agency.
